Grades
Students are required to meet academic standards to participate in extracurricular activities as follows:
- Student participants shall maintain good citizenship.
- Student participants must be passing all classes in which they have enrolled and have no more than one grade of D based upon the latest term grades.
- Students academically ineligible due to grades from the latest quarter may regain eligibility based upon a progress report that meets the eligibility standards.
Hazing and Harassment
The Portsmouth Athletic Department interprets hazing as any act whether physical, mental, emotional, or psychological, which subjects another person voluntarily or involuntarily, to anything that may abuse, mistreat, degrade, humiliate, harass or intimidate in any fashion. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and action will be taken. Any incidence of harassment or hazing will be reported to the Athletic Director and discipline will be handled according to the School Department policy regarding harassment.
Playing time is earned during practice time. Therefore, if you miss a practice or part of a practice it can/will effect your playing time.
Students and parents need to plan appointments that do not conflict with practice and game times. Students need to be organized and keep up with their studies. If a player misses practice during the week of a game they cannot start the first half of the game (but they may play during the first half).
If a player misses practice the day before a game they cannot play in the first half of the game. There are some exceptions, for example, funerals, religious holidays, and college visits.
All players must ride the bus to and from each event. The coaches need to know that all players are accounted for and can't do so if they are traveling by other means. The bus rides are also an important part of team building and we want all of the players together both before and after each game.
We understand that there will be situations where a student is not able to ride on the bus. If a student is not able to ride the bus, permission must be obtained from the Athletic Director (Rus Wilson), to travel by other means. Ideally, permission should be obtained prior to the day of the game.
Please make your best effort to have your child on the bus for every game.
To participate in school events, including athletics, clubs, music, etc., a student must be in school for the entire day or have a documented absence/tardy/dismissal. Any student that is tardy/absent/dismissed from school on Friday may not participate in weekend events without documentation of school time missed.
